National Athletic Training Month Spotlight

Penn State Hazleton Baseball
Catcher/Outfield
I have been playing baseball since age 5. As I got older I chose the position of being catcher and an outfielder. Throughout my career, I have conditioned my arm to be strong and make long distance throws at high speeds in order to be successful in these positions.
I began playing at the collegiate level for Penn State Hazleton as the catcher. In the fall of 2014 I found out that I had several labrum tears in my shoulder from years of throwing and would need surgery. There was a risk of not being able play again or at the same level by having the surgery. The surgeon repaired three tears in my right shoulder. Justin, Athletic Trainer, has helped me to prepare my arm to be ready to perform again for next year. I go to physical therapy twice a week and almost every day I visit the athletic training room. Justin talks and works with me every day to keep me positive and working hard to get better for my future seasons. Some days I am very discouraged with my arm, and Justin is always there for me to talk to and encourage me to keep working. He helps me not only on an athletic level, but also on a personal level. Because of his encouragement I am hoping to try out for main campus and play there within the next few years.
