Scarlet Vargas and Andy Kwiatkowski named to PSUAC All-Conference Teams

State College, Pa. - On Suday, March 1 junior Andy Kwiatkowski (Gaithersburg, Md.) and freshman Scarlet Vargas (Bronx, Ny.) were named to the PSUAC All-Conference team for their work throughout the regular season in men's and women's Basketball.

Andy Kwiatkowski - 1st Team All-Conference , Eastern Division Player of the Year

Junior shooting guard Andy Kwiatkowski turned in one of the most productive season-long performances at Hazleton in recent memory leading him to be named the top player in the PSUAC's eastern division. He led the PSUAC in scoring as the only player in either division to average 20 or more points during the regular season, finishing the year with 22.1 points per game. He led the conference with 3.5 triples made per game and ranked fifth in the PSUAC from beyond the arc, connecting on over 40 percent of his attempts from long range. During the course of the season, the junior notched 20 or more points in all but seven contests, while topping the 30 point mark on four occasions. Kwiatkowski's top performance of the year came on February 9 at Stabler Arena where the junior turned in a season high 35 points on 13-of-28 shooting. During that outing, the junior matched a season high with seven triples made, adding a season high 14 rebounds as Hazleton topped Lehigh Valley to secure a spot in the 2020 PSUAC post-season.

Scarlet Vargas - 1st Team All-Conference

Scarlet Vargas (Bronx, Ny.) emerged as the top scorer for the Lady Lions during the 2019-20 season on her way to her first career PSUAC All-Conference selection. Vargaas averaged just under 15 points per game, ranking her 6th in the Penn State University Athletic Conference's eastern division. From beyond the arc, Vargas connected on 30.5 percent of her attempts and ranked second in the PSUAC with 2.9 three point shots made per outing. Midway through the season, Vargas transitioned to the point guard position but still managed to put up solid numbers for the Lady Lions. She topped double figures in 17 of 23 games played while coming in as the team's third leading rebounder, rounding out an excellent first season in a Penn State Hazleton uniform.
