Deidre Ellen Jago
Head Coach
Men's Volleyball, Men's Tennis, Co-Ed Swimming, Women's Basketball, Women's Tennis and Women's Volleyball
Deidre Ellen Jago was hired in 1972 when Title IX was signed into law. Her initial goal was to promote women's athletics at the campus. Her teams had very limited resources when they first began, but would eventually flourish into being competitive year after year.
Jago was named Eastern Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1994-95 and 1995-96 during the Women's season. Her team captured four staight CCAC North Championships in a fantastic run during the late 1990s.
Deidre amassed over 369 wins in her career at Penn State Hazleton, nearly half of those wins come during his two stints as the Women's Volleyball coach were her teams secured 160 victories.
Her passion for Women's athletics at the university is unmatched. She coached a total of 83 seasons in thirty-eight career at the campus.
Under her direction in the tennis programs, many of her players won individual or doubles titles at the tournaments held at University Park.
She coached the first Women's Basketball team at the campus. Due to the limited resources available to the program at the time, the team was forced to use "hand-me-down" uniforms from previous Men's basketball teams.
Coach Jago's Women's Basketball squad took second in the CCAC Tournament in 1975, just the fourth season of existence for the team.
For four straight seasons in the 1990s, Deidre served as an assistant coach to her husband, John Jago. Their leadership led to one conference championship, two league championships, and a 2nd place league finish in just four years.
