Peter Garber
Men's Basketball (1947-49)
As a freshman, Garber sparked the Hazleton Campus, then the Hazleton Undergraduate Center, team to the Pennsylvania Junior College Athletic Association (PJCAA) championship is 1947-48, the first state championship a campus basketball team has won.
The HUCsters’ leading scoring rebounder in the 1947-48 and 1948-49 seasons, Garber also led the PJCAA in scoring in 1947-48 with 173 points. As co-captain of the 1948-49 team, he earned PJCAA All-Star honors, paced Hazleton to the PJCAA championship game and to a thrilling 63-60 victory over the previously undefeated Temple University freshman team in the Lions Dream Game at Hazleton High School.
In Garber’s two seasons at the campus, Hazleton posted records of 16-2 and 17-5 for a combined 33-7. Garber is a graduate of Weatherly High School.
