Late rally earns Hazleton baseball split vs. Mont Alto
Drifton, PA - Penn State Hazleton met up with Penn State University Athletic Conference opponent PSU Mont Alto Saturday for a pair of afternoon baseball games. After falling to Mont Alto 13-0 in game one, Hazleton pulled off an impressive comeback in the final two frames of game two, earning their third conference win of the season by a score of 6-5.
Game 1: Penn State Mont Alto 13, Penn State Hazleton 0 (Final, 5 Innings)
Top 1: The Nittany Lions got off to a rocky start in game 1, allowing seven free passes to their opponent and committing four errors to start the double header. Mont Alto sent 12 batters to the plate to take an early 7-0 lead without collecting a hit.
Top 2: Matt Clark rakes a triple to centerfield and scores on the fielders choice by Jeremy Pagano.
Top 4: Mont Alto loads the bases with a single by Alex Cline and a pair of walks. Aaron Maze doubles to bring in two runs. RBI singles by Clayton Eberhart and Holden Baker push the score to its eventual final outcome at 13-0.

Top 1: Once again Mont Alto takes advantage of faulty play from the Hazleton defense, scoring a pair of runs without garnering a hit. Hazleton commits two errors and two walks to trail Mont Alto 2-0.
Top 2: A Matt Clark double plates Chris Torres from first base to increase the lead to 3-0.
Top 3: After a walk to Aaron Maze, Clayton Eberhart drives in a fourth Mont Alto run with a single to left field.
Top 5: Eberhart drives in a fifth run for Mont Alto with a single to right field. Two batters later Eberhart is thrown out at the plate to end the inning. A fortuitous play that shifts momentum for the Lions.
Bottom 5: Tyler Myers rakes a double to left-center and comes around to score Hazleton's first run of the afternoon on an error by the first baseman. Two batters later, Joseph Nigito rips a double of his own with two men aboard, cutting the lead to 6-3 in favor of Mont Alto.
Bottom 6: After a three up three down inning by Starlin Colon, Hazleton ramps up the offense once again in the bottom half of the inning. Brian Griest singles to lead off the inning. Cody Ryba singles to put runners at the corners, and Griest comes in a passed ball to tighten the game. Charlie Karchner picks up an RBI with Hazleton's third single of the inning, and with two out, Corey Ryba drills a double to right-center to bring in the go ahead run.
Top 7: Now with the lead, Colon goes to work against the middle of the Mont Alto order. Colon strikes out the lead off hitter and cultivates two infield outs to close out the victory for the Lions.
