Nittany Lion Baseball Earns All-Conference Selections
Hazleton, Pa. - Penn State Hazleton freshman Tim Kindler (Mountain Top, Pa.) earned a second team All-Conference nod from the Penn State University Athletic Conference coaches this week and was joined by fellow freshman Tanner Lawrence (Pinellas Park, Fl.) who was voted an honorable mention.
Kindler racked up six multi-hit games including a pair of four-hit performances in his first season in a Nittany Lion uniform. The freshman ranked in the top 20 in batting average amongst PSUAC competitors, led the Hazleton squad with 21 hits and struck out just once all season out of the lead off spot. In addition to his fine efforts at the plate, Kindler was a gem defensively for Hazleton, notching a perfect fielding percentage and a pair of assists as the Hazleton center fielder.
Lawrence got plenty of notice from opposing pitchers in the heart of the Hazleton line up. The freshman notched nine extra base hits throughout the 2017 season, good for the seventh highest total in the conference while playing six fewer games than the league leaders. Lawrence ended the year with a .304 batting average that netted him 10 RBI and 15 runs scored.
