Seven Lions land on Baseball's All-Conference Team

State College, Pa. - Seven Hazleton Nittany Lions earned their way onto the Penn State University Athletic Conference's All-Conference Team after an 8-7 record and a fourth place finish in the Eastern Division in 2022.

Colin Stauffer (Hazleton, Pa.) - 1st Team All-Conference Pitcher

Stauffer led the PSUAC East in strikeouts with 69 K's during the 2021-22 season. The senior made seven starts for Hazleton, sporting a 3-3 record, 12.76 strikeouts per nine innings and a 4.25 earned run average for the season. Stauffer ended the year throwing four straight complete games in his final four starts and pulling out a win in his final career start, a 5-2 win over Brandywine where Stauffer allowed just four hits while striking out eight batters. 

Eric Nothstein (Palmerton, Pa.) - 1st Team All-Conference Utility Player

Nothstein patrolled every position in the Hazleton outfield throughout the season, adding stints in the starting rotation and as a designated hitter. Nothstein's flexibility combined with the high demand to keep his bat in the lineup earned the junior the PSUAC Eastern Division's selection as the top utility player. Eric led the division in home runs during the regular season and ranked second overall in the PSUAC with six home runs. Nothstein added a team-high 21 RBI to go along with 13 runs scored and a .295 batting average. 

Nick Ciszak (Kunkletown, Pa.) - 1st Team All-Conference Infielder

Ciszak was one of the top infielders in the conference for second straight season. The sophomore led Hazleton in walks and runs scored, adding a .265 batting average and a team-high seven doubles. At one point during the season, Ciszak hit in 11 straight games, going 14-for-42 over that stretch. 

Bryce Dalpiaz (Liverpool, Pa.) - 1st Team All-Conference Catcher

Dalpiaz was one of the top backstops in the PSUAC East this season. The junior went for two home runs in 2021-22, adding 12 runs scored with 10 RBI and four stolen bases. Defensively, Dalpiaz caught in 25 of Hazleton's 27 games played and threw out ten base runners throughout the year. 

 

Jared Joyce (Jim Thorpe, Pa.) - East Division Co-Newcomer of the Year

Joyce was one of the conference's top outfielders and completed his rookie season with the second best batting average on the Hazleton squad, hitting at a .333 clip in 2021-22. Joyce was tied for the team lead in run scored with 18 and ranked second on the team in home runs and third on the squad with 14 RBI. 

Eddie Wess (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) - Honorable Mention All-Conference Outfielder

Wess was Hazleton's top hitter this season, sporting a .343 batting average which was the eighth highest batting average in the PSUAC East. Wess totaled six extra-base hits and added eight RBI, 12 runs scored and four stolen bases while doing a fine job patrolling center field for the Nittany Lions in 2021-22. 

Ryan Wingerter (Dingman's Ferry, Pa.) - Honorable Mention All-Conference Outfielder

Wingerter hit safely in 14 of 23 games played in 2022 allowing Wingerter to rank fourth on the team in batting with a .291 average. Wingerter ranked second on the Hazleton squad with 15 RBI this season adding 13 runs scored and four extra base hits while routinely making highlight reel catches in left field for the Nittany Lions.
