Penn State Hazleton Cheerleading
Cheerleading at Penn State Hazleton runs throughout the academic year, ending with the annual sports banquet in April where awards are given for academic merit, perfect attendance and Most Valuable Cheerleader of the year.
Men and women are encouraged to try out for the squad, which cheers mainly at basketball games (November-March). Fans respond enthusiastically to traditional chants, especially when the Nittany Lion is on had to excite the crowd.
Penn State Hazleton Cheerleaders participate in community events such as, the cancer society and helping hands telethon, funfest and other community activities. The cheerleaders also raise funds within the community through various fundraisers. Ask a cheerleader what is going on this month!
Tryouts have concluded for the 2015-2016 squad. Continue to check the athletics website for updates on the next round of tryouts.
There is no specific skill required to try out for the squad. We are looking for cheerleaders with a great attitude, willingness to try new things and a commitment to the squad. Our focus is to support the athletic program and promote Penn State University throughout campus in a positive way. Weather you have cheered on a competitive squad or a local team, come out and see what the Hazleton cheerleading squad has to offer. Please feel free to contact Desiree Matz with any questions at desiree.matz@gmail.com.
Please remember cheerleading is a year round commitment. If at anytime this commitment is broken the participant will be removed from the squad.
