Men's Basketball upends Johnson College, 81-69
SCRANTON, Pa. - Freshman Jacob Solano led a second half charge, and Penn State Hazleton downed Johnson College, 81-69, in a non-conference men's basketball game on Thursday night.
Solano scored a career-high 28 points to push visiting Hazleton (2-0, 0-0 PSUAC) over the hump against a fiesty Jaguars team that held a 39-37 halftime advantage. A strong defensive effort and four players in double figures allowed the Nittany Lions to grab a second half lead and widen the lead as the final minutes played out.
Junior Dwayne Vines was one of the players in double figures, adding 13 points. Freshmen Royce Brathwaite and Tyreek Fairfax each contributed 10 points in the winning effort. But it wasn't just scoring that helped Hazleton in their comeback, as Vines forced three offensive charges by Johnson College. Overall the Nittany Lions forced the Jaguars to commit five offensive fouls.
Hazleton will take eight days off before hosting NCAA Division II opponent Bloomsburg University on Friday, November 14 at 8:00 p.m.
