First half deficit plagues Lions in loss to Mont Alto
Mont Alto, PA - The Nittany Lions recent success was halted Sunday as they fell to Penn State University Athletic Conference opponent Mont Alto (14-10, 9-4 PSUAC) in their final regular season game.
Jacob Solano (Bethlehem, PA) set the pace for Hazleton (9-11, 7-8 PSUAC), scoring a game high 21 points. Chris Woodring tallied 13 points and 3 steals while Jordan Singletary secured 14 rebounds in limited minutes for the Lions.
Mont Alto pulled ahead early and held on comfortably in a wire to wire victory for the 3rd ranked team in the PSUAC. Hazleton rallied to win the second half, but could not overcome the 17 point halftime deficit, ultimately losing the contest with Mont Alto, 76-66.
Mont Alto received scoring contributions from 10 players, four of whom finished in double figures. Jeremiah Mitchell racked up 15 points and 7 rebounds. Theophile Remy scored 14 points going 3 for 3 from long distance. Sharif Welton registered 12 points and Devonte Merrit recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Unable to continue their recent win streak, the Lions finish the season ranked 8th in the PSUAC. With young talent returning, Hazleton will look to build on their experience this season for a strong 2015-16 campaign.
