Singletary and Solano named All-Conference by PSUAC
York, Pa. - The 2016-17 men's basketball awards were announced on Sunday at the Penn State York Campus prior to the championship rounds of the Penn State University Athletic Conference basketball playoffs. Earning nods for their outstanding play for Hazleton were junior Jordan Singletary and sophomore Jacob Solano.
Junior PF/C - Jordan Singletary (Houston, Tx.) - Second Team All-Conference
Singletary led the PSUAC in rebounding average with 13.3 boards per game and registered 35 more shots blocked than his nearest competitor with 71 swats throughout the year. The junior averaged a double-double, ranking 16th in the conference with a 14.3 points per game average and connected from the field at 58.5 clip to rank fourth in the PSUAC in field goal percentage. Singletary notched 20 or more rebounds on three separate occasions including a 23 point, 20 rebound and four block effort in a win over Worthington Scranton on December 6 of 2016.
Sophomore SG - Jacob Solano (Bethlehem, Pa.) - Honorable Mention
Solano was the leading scorer for Hazleton in 2016-17 and ranked eighth in scoring average in the conference at 19.3 points per game. The sophomore shot an astounding 53.7 percent from the field as a guard and led the PSUAC in three point shooting percentage, connecting from beyond the arc at a rate of 48.9 percent. Solano totaled 20 or more points in 12 outings this season including a season high 37 point performance in a win over New Kensington on January 14, 2017.
