PSU Hazleton Golf captures first crown of the season
DALLAS, Pa. -- Penn State Hazleton's golf team captured their first invitational win of the season, winning in impressive fashion at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational at Irem Country Club in Dallas, Pa. The Nittany Lions won by 22 strokes over runner-up Penn State DuBois on the par-72 layout.
Ty Morzilla (Berwick, Pa.) once again led the charge for Hazleton, notching his third medalist honor of the season with a 5-over par 77. Morzilla took home the individual title by one stroke, completing his fourth round under 80. Teammate Erin Gilligan carded an 89, good for second-best for Hazleton and fourth overall.
Hazleton picked up their first win after finishing second as a team at their two previous tournaments, including a second-place finish behind Penn State DuBois at their event. The team total of 353 was the second best score for the Nittany Lions in 2014.
DuBois narrowly edged out host Penn State Wilkes-Barre by a stroke, with Penn State Schuylkill finishing fourth at 391.
Hazleton's season continues on Monday, September 29 when they host the Penn State Hazleton Invitational at Valley Country Club in Sugarloaf, Pa. A shotgun start will begin at 11:00 a.m.
