Local grad joins Nittany Lion golf
Hazleton, Pa. - Nittany Lion golf added its newest member last week in the form of Hazleton native Joey Rebarchick. A four-year varsity golfer at Hazleton Area High School, Rebarchick successfully qualified for the PIAA District II Individual tournament every year throughout high school. During his final year at Hazleton, Rebarchick carded a number of great scores on the links including three consecutive matches with scores in the 30's and low round of 33 on his 18th birthday. Joey's efforts helped net the Cougars a Wyoming Valley Conference championship in the 2020-21, a feat he'll attempt to duplicate in the Penn State University Athletic Conference when golf returns in the fall of 2021.
"I'm extremely excited to have Joey joining the Penn State Hazleton golf team," said Head Coach Jason Martonick. "Joey is an excellent student-athlete and I look forward to watching him compete in the fall."
The opportunity to continue his athletic career while pursuing his degree in nuclear engineering was a big factor in Joey's decision to attend Penn State Hazleton. "I've set my academic standards high and I've trained to grow my athletic ability drastically," stated Rebarchick. "My goal is to eventually earn my tour card, elevate my intelligence and enlighten myself in a nuclear engineering career."
