Hazleton, Pa. - Hazleton notched three scores in the 80's at Valley Country Club during the Clark Luis Invitational on Monday, securing a second place finish in the team's home event and final match of the regular season.
Thirty eight golfers from six campuses descended upon the Valley Country Club links but just two players managed to tackle the pristine track and challenging greens during a chilly round of golf in the Conyngham valley. Taking home medalist honors were Ian Masenheimer of Penn State Lehigh Valley who shot a plus three round of 74 with Wilkes-Barre's Cooper Kelly trailing the lead by just one shot with a fine round of 75 while Brandywine's Marge Reynolds took home medalist honors in the women's division with a 96.
Hazleton golfers faired better than most on Monday with senior Colin Hoy (Harlysville, Pa.), sophomore Joey Rebarchick (Hazleton, Pa.) and freshman Grant Culbert (Pine Grove, Pa.) all finishing in the top ten of the field of 38 players. Hoy fought off a rough start to finish the day in a tie for third with an 81 with Rebarchick finishing one shot back in a tie for fifth place. Culbert netted a plus 13 round of 85 to finish in a tie for 9th place. Hazleton's Aaron Kellmer (Hazleton, Pa.) rounded out the Lions top four scores of the day, shooting a 95 but the Lions would finish just two shots back of the first place in the team event with a final score of 343.
