Penn State Hazleton's golf program is led by coach Ed Keil, a graduate of Penn State Wilkes-Barre and an Air Force Veteran. This is his initial year at Penn State Hazleton after 38 years of coaching golf at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, where Coach Keil was one of the most successful and longest-tenured head coach in school history. Keil was named EPCC Golf Coach of the Year in 1999, was inducted into Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Athletics Wall of Fame in 2015, was awarded the USCAA Golf Coach of the Year in 2018, was named PSUAC Coach of the Year in 2025 and received the PSUAC Robert Scannell Roll of Honor Award in 2025 (the highest athletic award given in the commonwealth campus system). His Wilkes-Barre teams have won eight conference championships and finished 2nd and 3rd in the USCAA National Championship Tournament. Penn State Wilkes-Barre has also won five prestigious Presidents Cup titles.
 
Under Coach Keil's tutelage, Wilkes-Barre golfers have won four PCAA or PSUAC individual state titles. nine were USCAA All Americans, and over 130  golfers were named All-Conference or All State. His first year at Hazleton produced one USCAA All American and two PSUAC All Conference players. Wilkes-Barre's golfers also excelled academically with over 180 being named Academic All-Conference, and 16 named Academic All Americans. Coach Keil's athletes have gone into various professions including professional golfing, medicine and law.
 
Coach Keil has also conducted youth summer camps and ladies' golf clinics for Penn State for many years. An accomplished golfer himself, he is a retired golf course superintendent with over 35 years as a Class A member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
 
Ed resides in Hanover Township with his wife, Gina.
