Lions trail early, fall to Berkeley (NJ) 9-0
Mahwah, Nj. - The Nittany Lions were dealt their second consecutive loss on Tuesday as the traveled to Ramapo College to face the perennial United States Collegiate Athletic Association playoff contender, Berkeley College of New Jersey. Hazleton trailed early and Berkeley piled on the offense for a wire to wire victory over the Lions who fell to the Knights by the score of 9-0.
Carlos Goncalves got the Knights off to a hot start with the eventual game winning score in the 11th minute. Berkeley would tack on three more scores to end the first half including a pair of scores by Wender Lima to carry a 4-0 advantage into the break. Hazleton was unable to recover in the second half as the offensive pressure continued from the Knights. Three scores by Sebastian Cannizzo and another by Lima highlighted a five goal effort in the half with each of the duo netting a hat trick. Berkeley out-shot the Lions by a margin of 21-1 and a 15-0 cushion in the corner kick column en route to a convincing win over Hazleton.
Next up: Hazleton will look to right the ship as they return home and look to get in the win column. The Lions will take on Pratt Institute on Friday, September 8 on the Hazleton campus at 7:00 p.m.
