Factoryville, Pa. - The Nittany Lions were held scoreless late Thursday afternoon as they continued non-conference play at Keystone College. Hazleton was unable to get the offense going as Keystone maintained possession throughout the contest leading to a 6-0 defeat of Penn State Hazleton.
Hazleton faced a battery of shots all afternoon but the Giants took command of the match midway through the first period. Leading 1-0 after an early score, Keystone tacked on back to back scores in a 20 second stretch of the 20th minute to go up 3-0 and cap the successful half with a score in the 41st. Keystone unleashed 24 shots in the period, 11 of which were on target to build a healthy 4-0 advantage at the midway point.
Following a quick score in the 48th minute, Hazleton would slow the Giant offense for much of the second half but were unable to convert stops into runs of their own. The Lions kept Keystone off the board for the next 38 minutes of play but a late goal with four minutes and change to play would lead to the eventual final score of 6-0.
Hazleton would be out-shot by a healthy 41-0 margin. Sophomore Jean-Louis Sunther Jr. (Abidjam, Ivory Coast) managed 10 saves out of the 16 Keystone shots on target.
Next up: Men's Soccer will wrap up non-conference play on Monday, September 17 when they travel to Doylestown, Pa. to face Delaware Valley University at 7:00 p.m.
