Five newcomers penned to join Lady Lion Softball
Hazleton, Pa. - Joining incoming student-athletes Erin Schmik and Sarah Coolbaugh as part of the incoming recruiting class for Lady Lion Softball are five new commits for the 2017 team. Jerrika Chorba, Breann Fetterman, Grace Klinger, Kiana Lukoskie and Brittney Witchey are all bound for success on the field in 2017 while pursuing a Penn State education.
Jerrika Chorba - Chorba is a senior from Bloomsburg, Pa. graduating this spring from Bloomsburg Area High School. The senior has picked up eight varsity letters for soccer and softball for the Panthers and proves to be a difference maker in the middle infield for the Lady Lions. Chorba made second team all-state as a shortstop last season winning a team MVP and golden glove award at Bloomsburg. The senior is a National Honor Society member and plans to major in Information Sciences and Technology from Penn State while continuing her softball career at the collegiate level.
Breann Fetterman - The two-sport athlete will not only be a key member of the softball squad, but a member of the inaugural women's soccer program at Penn State Hazleton. This spring senior will graduate from Crestwood High School where she was a three year starter and first team all-star in softball as an outfielder for the Comets. In the offseason Fetterman plays for the Warriors, a traveling softball club out of Drums, Pa. and when she embarks on her collegiate career, she plans to major in Physical Therapy at Penn State.
Grace Klinger - The high school senior is excited for the opportunity to continue her athletic career and the intercollegiate level for a small campus that's close to home. Klinger will graduate from Upper Dauphin Area High School this spring where she played both the catcher and third base positions for the Trojans, earning five varsity letters over her high school career. In addition to her high school accolades, Klinger continues to a build a strong softball resume, traveling for the Central Pa. Outlaws and Ocean City Premier Predators when not playing high school sports. Grace is an honor roll student planning to major in corporate communications at Penn State in the fall.
Kiana Lukoskie - The Trevorton, Pa. native is a utility player from Line Mountain High School, with experience at third base, behind the plate and in the outfield. Lukoskie earned four varsity letters for softball in high school where she was the team stolen base MVP, a second team Tri-Valley all-start and a 2015 district playoff quarter-finalist. Kiana has been a Distinguished Honor Roll member all four years in high school and will major in Environmental Science when she arrives at college. Lukoskie chose Hazleton for its friendly, home-like atmosphere and is excited to continue her softball career.
Brittney Witchey - The senior from Columbia County Vo-Tech is an experienced infielder from Bloomsburg, Pa. Witchey lettered all four years of high school in softball where she played second base, catcher, pitcher and right field and traveled with three area softball clubs including the Gravediggers, Bandits and Warriors. As a freshman, Brittney was named the rookie slugger of the year and earned two coach's awards for her play behind the plate. Since her sophomore year, Witchey has totaled a batting average of .319, driving in 47 runs with four home runs and in 2016 has a 6-2 record from the circle with an earned run average of 3.98. Brittney is a National Honor Society member and plans to major in Physical Therapy upon her arrival at Penn State Hazleton.
