Women's Basketball dominates Luzerne CCC for opening game win
HAZLETON, Pa. - Junior Alexis Daly (Wyalusing, Pa.) scored a game-high 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Penn State Hazleton cruised to an 85-41 win over Luzerne County Community College in a non-conference game on Tuesday night.
The Lady Lions (1-0, 0-0 PSUAC) jumped out to a 43-15 halftime lead, shooting a sizzling 54 percent from the field. Hazleton maintained their cushion throughout the second half to pick up the opening win, shooting 52 percent in the closing half.
Every Hazleton player scored at least two points on the night, led by Daly who finished 13-for-17 from the field, and added two steals in 24 minutes of action. Teammate Taylor Cannon (Hazleton, Pa.) added 16 points for Hazleton on 8-of-14 shooting, while sophomore Kyana Willoughby (Union City, NJ) dished out a game-high four assists. Freshman Jacqlyn Siva-Harrison (Monmouth Junction, NJ) added nine points, four rebounds and recorded the only block of the game.
Hazleton finished the night shooting 53 percent from the field, including 43 percent from behind the arc. Their night also included a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. The Lady Lions defense forced 27 Trailblazer turnovers, and outrebounded Luzerne 35-23. Hazleton crashed the offensive glass to pull down 14 rebounds, capitalizing with 18 second chance points.
The Trailblazers were led by Cheyenne Reece, who finished with 25 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Sabrina Zurek added 14 points for Luzerne.
The Lady Lions return to the court on Wednesday night when they host SUNY Delhi in a non-conference game in the Dr. Thomas Caccese Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m.
