Daly surpasses 1,000 point milestone in 65-40 rout of Penn State York

YORK, Pa. - Junior Alexis Daly (Wyalusing, Pa.) reached a milestone Friday night, surpassing the 1,000 point mark in her career as a Lady Lion during a 65-40 win over Penn State York in a Penn State University Athletic Conference women's basketball game. Daly becomes just the third Lady Lion in school history to reach the plateau, and first in six years.

Daly, who entered the game with 993 career points, hit a jumper with 5:40 remaining in the first half to reach the mark, giving Hazleton (6-1, 2-0 PSUAC) a 23-15 lead at the time. York, who led for only a few minutes and by as many as four, could not cut their deficit to any less than six after Daly's achievement.

Daly's 17 points were a game-high, while her eight rebounds paced the Lady Lions. Senior Taylor Cannon (Hazleton, Pa.) finished with 11 points, drawing her closer to 1,000 career points. Cannon now has 988 points in her career and will have a chance to accomplish the feat at home on Wednesday, December 3 when Hazleton hosts Penn State Worthington Scranton.

Sophomore Deidra Ciavaralla (Mountain Top, Pa.) hit Hazleton's only three-pointers of the night, going 2-for-4 behind the arc, to cap her season-high 10 points. Hazleton forced 16 turnovers in a relatively clean game, only giving away the ball 10 times. The Lady Lions took advantage of the York miscues, scoring 14 points off turnovers.

Hazleton led every major statistical category on the night, including pulling down 33 rebounds to York's 22. Katie McNamara led the Lions with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds, but additional offense was limited.

The Lady Lions take an 11-day hiatus before hosting Scranton in a PSUAC match-up on December 3 at 6:00 p.m. The night will be highlighted by a "Meet the Coaches" session for prospective students, as well as a "White Out" for Hazleton students sponsored by the campus Blue and White Society. The first 100 Penn State Hazleton students will receive a free t-shirt. Daly will also be honored for her achievements in her return to her home court.
