Lady Lions improve to 6-0 with win at PSU Wilkes-Barre

Lehman, PA - Penn State Hazleton cruised to victory Friday evening with an efficient team shooting performance. With that win the Lady Lions (11-1) garnered their 6th consecutive conference victory to remain unbeaten in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

The Hazleton squad jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished their grip on the contest. The Lady Lions saw early scoring contributions from 7 different players, shooting over 40 percent from the field and 3 of 6 from beyond the arc in the first half. Despite losing the turnover battle, Hazleton limited their opponents to one and done possessions. The first half saw Hazleton out-rebound Wilkes-Barre 20-9, securing an 8 point lead at the break (28-20).

An early run in the second half pushed Hazleton out to a commanding lead that never shrank below double-digits. Alexis Daly (Wyalusing, PA) finished the night with 14 points and 10 rebounds, her 7th double-double of the season.  Stephanie Guevara (North Brunswick, NJ) shot an impressive 64 percent from the field, adding 14 points and 9 rebounds of her own while Diedre Ciavarella (Mountain Top, PA) provided a spark from the bench, recording 11 points, shooting 3 of 8 from beyond three point range. Collectively, The Lady Lions shared the ball for 12 assists, and shot an efficient 43 percent from the field including five from downtown.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre battled throughout the game, forcing 19 turnovers by Hazleton including 6 steals from Shauntel Williams. Breana Moore led all scorers in the game with 23 points, adding 6 rebounds respectively.

Hazleton heads into the winter recess with a 1.5 game lead in the PSUAC over Penn State Brandywine (3-0). The Lady Lions will resume play on January 14 in a non-conference contest at Davis College in Johnson City, NY.
