National Athletic Training Month
Spotlight Athlete: Taylor Cannon
When I was in 1st grade my parents told me that I could start to play sports and that I could pick any sport that I wanted. It wasn't until I went to see my first basketball game that I realized that I wanted to play basketball. I was so enamored by the fast pace and skill that it took to play the game that I decided that it was the sport I wanted to play. Little did I know I would spend the next 16 years of my life playing basketball.
Playing as a relatively undersized small forward for the majority of my basketball career I have sustained quite a few injuries. I've sustained concussions, ligament tears, rolled ankles, jumper's knee, and stitches during my career. During my career at Penn State Hazleton I would not have been able to play as well as I did while injured if it weren't for my school's athletic trainer Justin Beaupre. When I tore the ligaments in my thumb my sophomore year Justin worked with me and taped up my thumb before every game and practice, allowing me to keep playing at a high level. Justin has not only helped me prepare for games he has been a constant supporter of the women's basketball team as a whole. His encouragement and work to keep my teammates and I healthy and playing throughout the season was a huge factor in helping our team make it to the PSUAC championship as well as the USCAA national tournament.
