PSU Hazleton Runs to First Conference Win
Penn State Hazleton outscored Penn State Greater Allegheny 21-14 in the third quarter and 21-15 to cruise to its third win of the season and first conference win by a score of 73-53 on Saturday afternoon in PSUAC women's basketball action.
Mckenzie Prutsman scored a team-high 26 points as the Penn State Hazleton's women's basketball team picked up its third win of the season, 73-53, over Division and Conference foe Penn State Greater Allegheny. Teammate Kendra Pfeil pumped in another 14 points for the Lady Lions as the win gave them their first Conference win. Jayla Ellis scored 12 points for Greater Allegheny while Kyia Blair added 10 points. The loss dropped Greater Allegheny to 0-3 in the Conference and 0-9 overall.
With Hazleton ahead by just 5 leading 31-26 in the third quarter, they went on a 14-2 run that spanned nearly eight minutes to put the game out of reach at 52-38. The Lady Lions remained on fire in the fourth quarter while playing a tenacious defense allowing only 2 points in the first three minutes of the final stanza. In the tale of the tape, Hazleton led Greater Allegheny in all areas except 3-point shots made and turnovers - Greater Allegheny shot 26% from 3-point range while Hazleton only hit 16% and Greater Allegheny committed 26 turnovers to Hazleton's 20. The Lady Lions cashed in scoring 28 points off those turnovers. Field goal percentage was the downfall for Greater Allegheny as they shot 29% from the field while Hazleton shot 41%. Hazleton outrebounded Greater Allegheny 51 to 47. The Lady Lion bench outscored Greater Allegheny 16-5.
Penn State Hazleton returns to action on December 5th in a conference game at Penn State Worthington Scranton and then closes out 2017 on December 8th traveling to SUNY Delhi.
