PSU Hazleton Uses Strong Second Half En Route To Back To Back Wins
An 11-point run to start the third quarter and 17 points by freshman Lauren Pataki helped the lady Lions of PSU Hazleton women's basketball team post an 82-60 win over PSU Scranton Worthington Tuesday night at Scranton-Worthington.
Five PSU Hazleton Lady Lions finished in double figures led by Lauren Pataki's 17 points off 4 field goals & two 3-point shots from the floor and a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line. Kendra Pfeil added 16 points (9 from behind the 3-point arc), Shelby Berger pitched in 15 points and 9 rebounds Mckenzie Prutsman continued to have a hot hand for the second game in a row pumping in 12 points and Sam Varela rounded out the double-figure scorers adding 12 points and 5 rebounds coming off the bench. Monique Hicks socre 16 points and Jenna Parcella added another 15 for Scranton-Worthington.
Scranton-Worthington came out hot and led by a bucket, 21-19 after the first quarter. Hazleton roaring back in the second quarter behind Pataki's 3-point shots and trips to the foul line as well as key buckets by Varela, Prutzman and Berger. Hazleton outscored Scranton-Worthington 25-12 in the second stanza to take a 44-33 lead into the locker room.
The second half started no different as the endof the first half as the Lady Lions of Hazleton once again outscored Scranton-Worthington 25-14. Pfeil got into the scoring mix with Prutzman and Pataki to push the lead to 22 points by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, PSU Hazleton added 13 points to win the game running away from Scranton Worthington for a final score of 82-60.
Last night's win was the second win in a row for Hazleton and their second straight PSUAC Conference win. Hazleton is now 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in the conference while Scranton-Worthington sits at 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference. PSU Hazleton hits the road for their last game of 2017 when they play SUNY Dehli with a 7:00 pm tip off.
