Lions dominant in 68-32 win at Wilkes-Barre
Lehman, Pa. - The Hazleton Nittany Lions improved to 8-3 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Saturday with a convincing 36 point victory at Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Hazleton won nearly every major statistical category in the victory, getting production from 10 players including a double-double from sophomore Emily Titus (Tamaqua, Pa.).
The Lions took an early lead on Saturday and led comfortably through three quarters but shut down Wilkes-Barre in the final frame, doubling their third quarter advantage with a 20-2 run in the fourth quarter. Hazleton out-shot the home team by 25 percentage points and won the battle on the glass by a margin of 15 rebounds with production coming from up and down the roster. None was better than Emily Titus who led a trio of Nittany Lions who tallied double-digits in the scoring column. Titus shot 66 percent from the field on Saturday and knocked in 6-of-7 from the charity stripe on her way to a game-high 22 points. The sophomore also led the Lions with 15 rebounds for her first career double-double in a Hazleton uniform. Freshman Azaria Johnson (Richmond Hill, Ga.) added 12 points on 6-of-7 attempts from the field while freshman Cassandra Rodriguez (League City, Tx.) pitched in with a 10 point afternoon respectively.
Next up: Hazleton continued conference play on Tuesday night with a visit from Penn State York who looms just ahead of the Nittany Lions in the eastern division standings at 8-1 on the year. Tip-off on Tuesday slated for 6:00 p.m. in the Dr. Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium.
