Lions cruise to conference win at Scranton
Dunmore, Pa. - Hazleton bounced back into the win column on Wednesday night with an 85-20 road victory against Penn State Scranton. Hazleton had their best shooting night of the season, connecting on field goals at a 58 percent clip for the night while turning the ball over a season low, seven times to ensure the win. A 54 point outpouring of offense in the first half gave the Lions a 46 point advantage midway through the game, far too much for the Scranton squad to overcome in the final 20 minutes as Hazleton coasted home in the second half.
Seven players contributed in the score book for Hazleton on Wednesday, including four players in double-figures. Leading the way with her first career triple double was sophomore Rocky Curry (Darby, Pa.) who registered 14 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds, making Curry responsible for nearly half of the Nittany Lion offense in the conference opener. Sophomore Cassandra Rodriguez (League City, Tx.) added a double-double in the win, totaling a game high 20 points and 14 rebounds while teammate, Sophomore Azaria Johnson (Richmond Hill, Ga.) tallied 17 points and three steals in limited time on the court. Rounding out the top performers for Hazleton was senior Natasha Feliciano (Cainovas, PR) who was solid across the board with 14 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Next up: Hazleton continues PSUAC play this weekend when they'll face visitors from the Western Division. The Lions will host Penn State DuBois on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. before facing Greater Allegheny at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium.
