Lady Lions earn road win at Penn State Beaver
New Brighton, Pa. - Hazleton opened up Penn State University Athleitic Conference play on Sunday with a trip across the state to Penn State Beaver. The Lady Lions dominated in terms of possession, reeling off 33 shots on goal compared to just nine attempts for Beaver. Hazleton's advantage on offense translated into a 2-0 halftime but Beaver responded with a quick score in the final period. The Lions would nurse a slim one goal lead for the next 23 minutes until junior Ariel Rowlands (Dorrance, Pa.) broke the game open with her second score of the afternoon. Junior Katie Oldziejewski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) tacked on an insurance goal moments later to send the Lady Lions home with a 4-1 conference victory.

Lady Lions Strike Early
Rowlands made good on Hazleton's second shot of the game, scoring on a cross from sophomore Breann Fetterman (Mountain Top, Pa.) in the eighth minute of the game. Eight and half minutes later, Fetterman would slide tackle a crossing pass from freshman Camille Principe (Jim Thorpe, Pa.), taking the ball near post and past the keeper's left, giving Hazleton a healthy 2-0 cushion.
Career Day for Rowlands
Following a near 64 minute scoring drought, Rowlands connected for her second score to extend the Lady Lion lead back to two goals. Rowlands dribbled up the right side in the 80th minute firing from just inside the 18 and hooking the ball into the upper right 90. Moments later, Rowlands contributed on her third score of the day, making a cross from the right side of the field and finding a wide open Oldziejewski in the middle of the pitch. Oldziejewski beat the last remaining defender to notch her seventh score of the year and sure of the victory for Hazleton in the final minutes of action.
Next Up
The Lady continue conference play on September 20 with a bout against the 2016 PSUAC champions. Hazleton will square with Brandywine on Wednesday at Community Park beginning at 4:00 p.m.
