Hazleton falls to Brandywine 7-2

Hazleton, Pa. - The Lady Lions stumbled at home on Wednesday evening as Penn State University Athletic Conference play continued against Brandywine. Hazleton struggled to contain the speedy Brandywine attack who let loose 20 shots on the Hazleton goal compared to just five for the Lady Lions who were issued a 7-2 defeat.

It took just over seven minutes for Brandywine to capitalize on the Hazleton defense, netting successive goals from Averie Florschutz and Brianna Banks but Hazleton would take the ensuing kickoff downfield to cut the advantage back to a one score margin. Sophomore Breann Fetterman (Mountain Top, Pa.) played the ball on the ground to junior Katie Oldziejewski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) who shot from the left side of the box past the keeper's left for the score.

Unable to take advantage of the momentum Hazleton would be fail to keep within striking distance as Brandywine closed the half with a pair of scores and continued to add to their point total in the second period.  Brandywine's would strike for three more goals over a five minute stretch in the final frame, including a third tally from Brianna Banks that helped put the game out of reach. Hazleton had several chances to cut into the deficit but failed to convert on their limited offensive chances. Junior Ariel Rowlands (Dorrance, Pa.) tacked on Hazleton's only score in the second half, snagging the ball from the Branywine keeper who came out of the goal to clear a long pass. Rowlands would tuck the ball neatly into the net, capping Wednesday's scoring at the 7-2 final score in favor of Brandywine.
