Lady Lions cruise to 6-1 win over Penn State Scranton

Hazleton, Pa. - Hazleton bounced back into the win column on Wednesday when they hosted Penn State Scranton, topping their opponent by the score of 6-1 to remain second in the standings in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.

The Lady Lions took control of the game right from the start and continued to set the pace all afternoon. In what was a dominant display of ball control, the Lady Lions reeled off 57 shots on the afternoon compared to just four by the Scranton squad. 34 of the Hazleton attempts came on target but a fine effort by the Scranton keeper limited the damage. A laser in the eighth minute from senior Lauren Degler (Oley Valley, Pa.) started off the action and just two minutes later, senior Katie Oldziejewski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) would find the back of the net as Hazleton jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. That margin would grow just eight minutes later when the Lions added two more scores with tallies from freshman Emma Wyllie (Benton, Pa.) and a 30 yard score by junior Madison Polumbo (Hazleton, Pa.).

Hazleton's 4-0- advantage would hold up through halftime, but as play resumed Scranton would cut into that margin on a shot over the Hazleton keeper by Alex Artone. That momentum would be short-lived as Emma Wyllie erased that score with her second score of the afternoon, a one-timer to the top right corner of the net on a pass from Oldziejewski on the left side. Hazleton continued to control the tempo for the remainder of the game, tacking on a final goal in the 72 minute by Oldziejewski, her second score of the game.

Next up: Back to back games over the weekend loom for the Lady Lions as Hazleton travels to Mont Alto on Saturday followed by the Lion's second matchup with Lehigh Valley on Sunday in Hazleton.
