Hazleton, Pa. - New head coach Tyler Wyllie and the Lady Lions are set to make their 2019 season debut next week when the squad travels to Trinity Washington University on Tuesday, September 3. Wyllie inherits a talented Lady Lion squad that reached the Penn State University Athletic Conference finals in 2018 and is excited to help the team get to the next level.
Wyllie played all four years of high school ball at Benton Area High School. He battled through knee injuries but still managed to earn two first-team selections to the all-conference squad before heading out to play at the next level. In 2015, Wyllie joined the Nittany Lion family and helped Hazleton to two consecutive playoff berths, including a PSUAC championship appearance in the fall of 2016. During that time, Wyllie helmed one of the top defenses in the conference, making the PSUAC All-Conference team in 2015 and 2016.
Following his playing career at the campus, Wyllie returned for one season as an assistant coach and again helped steer the squad to the conference championship before returning to coach in his hometown of Benton, Pa where he continues to stay involved with the game. He served as a volunteer coach for both the Jr. High and Varsity squads while acting as head coach for the Benton F.C. club team.
Wyllie holds a national "F" license from USA Soccer and looks to install a system devoted to high energy, possession based play.
