Lady Lions stop the skid with 3-0 win at PSU Lehigh Valley

Schnecksville, Pa. - Penn State Hazleton traveled to Berrier Hall on Wednesday to face off with Penn State Lehigh Valley in a Penn State University Athletic Conference contest. The Lady Lions claimed a 3-0 victory over Lehigh Valley, ending their 12 game slide in the month of September and picking up their first conference win of the season.

Both teams battled back in forth throughout the match, but an improved attack and strong service performance won the day for the Lady Lions. Hazleton led early in set one, but relinquished their lead midway through frame. With Hazleton trailing 14-16, senior Nieves Alonzo (Hazleton, Pa.) served up three aces and a winning rally to put the Lions back on top for good as Hazleton went on to take set one by a score of 25-22. The Lions trailed 5-10 in the second set before a side-out kill by sophomore Cheyenne Comfort (Landover Md.) and string of four aces by freshman Hailey Trasacco (Hamden Ct.) revitalized the Lions momentum allowing them to carry set two 25-23. With a 2-0 advantage, Hazleton took hold of the opportunity in set three with on-point passing and precision hitting from the outside hitters. Hazleton combined for 11 kills and a .320 hitting percentage to run away with set three by a score of 25-17 to end the September skid and add a notch in the win column.

The Lady Lions were led by Hailey Trasacco with seven kills, five service aces and 11 digs. Junior Miranda Dunne (Montrose, Pa.) added four kills while passing out 19 assists on the evening with sophomore Jessenia Wright (Brooklyn, Ny.) supplying six kills for Hazleton.
