Davis College surges past Hazleton to claim final three sets

Johnson City, Ny. - Led by the serving skills of seniors Tina Beiland (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Miranda Dunne (Montrose, Pa.) the Lady Lions (1-2) took set one from the Davis College Falcons Thursday night, but failed to keep momentum on their side as the home squad rallied to take the final three sets and claim victory over Hazleton by the final score of 3-1.

After sweeping Hazleton in a pair of matches in 2015, the Falcons were stymied by the blend of talented veterans and newcomers under Hazleton head coach Tracy Biehl. But after a 25-20 victory in set one for Hazleton, Davis College regrouped and found their offense in the next two frames. The Falcons heavy hitters found there spots on the floor and hit their targets to put Hazleton behind early in sets two and three and the Lady Lions were unable to give chase, falling by scores of 25-15 and 25-10 subsequently. The Falcons continued their strong play to open up another early lead in set number four, but the Lady Lions rallied behind the strong serving of Dunne to recover from an eight point deficit. Hazleton would go toe to toe with the Falcons trying to force a fifth frame, but with the set tied at 19-19 the Falcons began to pull away once more, squeaking by the fiesty Lady Lions in the final set by the score of 25-23 to capture the match.
