Hazleton drops road match to Lehigh Valley
Allentown, Pa. - The Lady Lions took Lehigh Valley down to the wire in the first set of Wednesday's volleyball match at Cedar Crest College, nearly upsetting the fifth ranked team in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. But the race to 25 was won by the home, edging Hazleton by just two points to steal the opening set. Lehigh Valley would go on to win the next two frames 25-17 and 25-13 despite fine collective play from the Lady Lions. Hazleton passed well and frequently contested Lehigh Valley attacks at the net, but ultimately fell three sets to none at the hands of the home team Lehigh Valley.
Hazleton's Nicole Barnes (Susquehanna, Pa.) spearheaded the Lady Lion defensive efforts, racking up 13 digs to go along with one kill and a pair of aces. Senior Tina Beiland (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the squad with two kills while senior Miranda Dunne (Montrose, Pa.) added three assists.
