Lady Lions top Trinity for first win
Hazleton, Pa. - The Lady Lions combined for 15 service aces on Friday afternoon in the Dr. Thomas M. Cacesse Gymnasium when the Lions rolled past Trinity Washington University for their for their first win of the 2019 season. Hazleton took advantage of 32 Tiger errors to cruise to a three set win by scores of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-6.
Hazleton was in command all afternoon and only trailed once in the contest. Six different Lady Lions notched multiple aces on the day including a team high four aces by freshman RosaLydia Caputo (Howard Beach, Ny.) along with three each by freshmen Isabel Sanlate (Bronx, Ny.) and Caitlyn Williams (Kingsley, Pa.). Hazleton needed just 35 attacks to get the job done, making good on .286 percent of their scoring attempts with junior Abby Bessoir (Dunmore, Pa.) leading the way with seven kills on the day and sophomore Alessandra Banta (Coatesville, Pa.) dishing out a team high eight assists.
Next up: Hazleton gets the weekend off but is back in action on Monday when they resume play in the Penn State University Athletic Conference. The Lions travel south to face Penn State Lehigh Valley September 16, playing the match at William Allen High School at 7:00 p.m.
