Hazleton, Pa. - The Hazleton Nittany Lion Volleyball team solidifies their play at the net with the addition of Rachael Gerfin to the 2022-23 roster. Gerfin is a resident of Kingsley, Pa. and will graduate this spring from Mountain View High School.

Rachael was a multi-sport athlete at Mountain View High School, serving as the center for the girls basketball team and a middle blocker with the volleyball squad. Gerfin began playing at the varsity level following her first ever volleyball practice and went on to become an All-Star in the Lackawanna Interscholastic Athletic Association for her final three seasons with the Eagles, accumulating 160 kills and 55 aces during her senior season.

"Rachael has a great combination of intelligence, athleticism and attitude that will help our program get to the next level," said head coach Noel Kaufman. "I'm thrilled to see her get the opportunity to continue to play collegiate volleyball while pursuing a Penn State education."

Off the court, Rachael is an honor roll student and is very committed to her academics. Gerfin was involved in a number of science clubs at Mountain View High School including the Science Olympiad Club and captained her school's Pennsylvania State Envirothon team. She plans to continue her passion for the sciences while attending Penn State, majoring in Forensic Science.
