Andrew Meitzler Set To Join Lion Baseball Team
Andrew Meitzler (Broadheadsville, PA) signs his letter of intent and will play baseball for the Penn State Hazleton Nittany Lions next year
The Penn State Hazleton Nittany Lions Baseball team solidified it's catching core with the addition of Andrew Meitzler to the 2023 roster. Meitzler recently graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in Broadheadsville, PA. The Saylorsburg, PA resident is the son of Mike and Sherri Meitzler.
While also playing football, Andrew was a mainstay behind the plate for the Pleasant Valley High School School Bears baseball team. He was a two-year varsity starter for the Bears emassing a .338 career batting averge and collecting 49 total hits. He led the team in rbi;s, doubles and home runs in his senior year this past year. He was rewarded for his stellar performances by being named as the First Team East Penn COnference Mountain Division Catcher, the First Team Pocono Record Area Cztcher, and the Allentown Morning Call Honerable Mention Catcher. Pleasant Vally won the 2021 EPC Mountain Division Championship in 2021 and qualified for the EPC playoffs and PIAA District XI Class 6A playoffs every year of his career. He was also named as a Scholar-Athlete in his senior year. Outside of high school, Meitzler played for the Northeast Titan Baseball CLub from 2013-2020 winning 20 tournament championships.
"A few years ago, we absolutely no catchers in the program, and now with the addition to Andrew and other catchers coming in with the 2022 class, I believe we will have the strongest catching crew in the PSUAC," said Head Coach Jeff Nietz. "I have watched Andrew for at least two years - I have been impressed with how he handles pitchers as well as his hustle and game-smarts. He will be a great addition to our program."
Meitzler plans to study Civil Engineering while at Penn State Hazleton and wants to maintain a good GPA whil helping his team win in any way possible. WHile not playing baseball, Andrew likes to spend his spare time fishing, golfing, and playing various other sports.
