Singletary, Solano Unstoppable In Win Over Schuylkill

Hazleton, PA – The Nittany Lions continued to gain momentum in a win again Penn State University Athletic Conference opponent Penn State Schuylkill (4-13, 3-9 PSUAC)Wednesday night in the Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium. Hazleton (8-10, 6-7 PSUAC) gained a much needed victory over their local adversary 74-68 as their quest for a playoff birth continues.

The Lions shot an efficient 50 percent from the field on a night in which four players eclipsed double figures. Leading the charge on both ends of the court was PSUAC and USCAA player of the week recipient Jordan Singletary (Houston, TX). Singletary scored a career-high 25 points, shooting over 90 percent from the field, while adding a robust 15 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Jacob Solano (Bethlehem, PA) continued his strong 2014-15 campaign, scoring 24 from the field on 10 of 18 shooting. Guard Tyreek Fairfax (Philadelphia, PA) added 11 points from field while point guard Chris Woodring collected 10 points and 8 rebounds rounding out the Hazleton attack.

In a close contest throughout, both teams' surrendered slim leads in the first half. Schuylkill's ability to get to the charity stripe in the opening period was matched by the Lions efficient first half shooting (57.7 FG%), resulting a 3 point Hazleton lead at the break. Quality play continued in the second half for both squads, leading to a tie ball game with just under 5 minutes remaining. With a foul advantage, Hazleton was able to convert on their free throws down the stretch pulling away from Schuylkill in the final minutes of play.

Penn State Schuylkill was led by Nikko Harris, who scored a game-high 27 points including 3 field goals from beyond the arc and 4 steals. William Bracey chipped in a double-double adding 12 points and 11 rebounds respectively.

Penn State Hazleton looks to continue their solid late-season play as they take on Penn State Brandywine in their final regular season home game, Saturday at 3pm in the Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium.
