STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Ty Morzilla (Berwick, Pa.) bounced back from a season-worst 89 on Monday at the PSUAC and USCAA Golf Championships, firing a PSUAC-best 1-over par 73 on Tuesday to capture the PSUAC Medalist honors. Morzilla's two day total of 162 was five strokes better than his nearest PSUAC competition, Penn State Wilkes-Barre's Jeff Carter. Morzilla also jumped from a tie for 69th to finish in a tie for 32nd in the USCAA.

Morzilla wasn't the only Hazleton player to better his day one score as Gary Hunt (Berwick, Pa.), Ryan Stashko (Berwick, Pa.) and Erin Gilligan (Pembroke, NH) all knocked strokes off their scores Tuesday. Hunt finished nine strokes better at 84, while Stashko shot 87 and Gilligan shot 93, good for seven and four fewer shots from day one, respectively. Hunt finished tied for 77th at 177, while Stashko was tied for 85th at 181.

The improvement on day two also allowed the Nittany Lions to jump Penn State DuBois for second in the PSUAC. Hazleton trailed the Lions by 14 strokes after Monday, but finished Tuesday with their lowest team score of the season--337. That was 29 shots better than DuBois on Tuesday, and gave Hazleton the runner-up trophy in the PSUAC. Penn State Lehigh Valley finished 15 shots clear of Hazleton to win the conference crown.

Daemen College won the USCAA National Championship with a two-day total of 608, seven strokes ahead of runner-up Rochester College. It is Daemen's third consecutive National Championship.
