Lions finish third at Wilkes-Barre Invitational; Madison finishes 7th
DALLAS, Pa. - Sophomore Garrett Madison (Canadensis, Pa.) shot 85 at Irem Temple Country Club on Tuesday, leading Penn State Hazleton to a third-place finish at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Invitational.
Madison bested teammate Ty Morzilla (Berwick, Pa.) by three strokes, and freshman Katie Behnert (Montandon, Pa.) by six as the Lions struggled to their second-worst outing of the season. Senior Gary Hunt (Berwick, Pa.) shot 95 to round out the team scoring for Hazleton.
Wilkes-Barre's Jonathan Wilson medaled with a 79, leading the Lions to their third team title of the season. Wilkes-Barre's team score of 328 topped Penn State Lehigh Valley by seven strokes. Lehigh Valley was led by Nate Bloomfield with an 81.
Senior Brandon Haydt (Hobbie, Pa.) was unable to keep his momentum, following up his tournament medalist honor last week at the Penn State Hazleton Invitational with his worst round of the season, an uncharacteristic 96.
Next Up: Players will gear up for the concurrently held PSUAC and USCAA Championships, played at the Penn State Blue Course on Monday, Oct. 12 and Tuesday, Oct. 13. Morzilla will look to defend his PSUAC individual championship as the Lions look to improve upon 2014's team runner-up finish.
