Madison and Morzilla earn PSUAC honors
Sophomores Garrett Madison (Stroudsburg, Pa.) and Ty Morzilla (Berwick, Pa.) were named All-Conference in golf by the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Wednesday. The second year duo combined for the top two spots in scoring average on the Hazleton roster while leading their team to a third place finish in the PSUAC.
Garrett Madison
Madison's game saw steady improvement throughout the 2015 season culminating in an outstanding performance in the PSUAC Championships. An outstanding driver of the golf ball, Madison utilized this advantage to net an 87.7 scoring average, good for second best on the team. During the PSUAC Championship on the Penn State Blue Course, Madison shot a season low 81 on day one of the tournament and followed that performance with an 84 in the finale. His combined scores in the championship secured him a third place finish amongst all other individuals in the conference.
Ty Morzilla
Morzilla led the team in scoring with an 85.1 average in 2015. The sophomore battled an inconsistent game off the tee all season, but his superb iron play kept him in contention in every match. Morzilla earned two second place individual finishes in matches in 2015. The sophomore went three over par on his final 14 holes at DuBois Country Club to finish runner-up in the season's opening match and carded a season best four over par 76 during the second match of the year at Mountain Valley Golf Course where he birdied two of the final three holes for the second best round of the day.
