Grant Culbert signs on to join Nittany Lion Golf
Hazleton, Pa. - Grant Culbert of Pine Grove, Pa. is set to become the newest member of the Hazleton Nittany Lion Golf team. Culbert will graduate from Pine Grove Area High School later this spring where he was a three-sport athlete, participating in golf, basketball and track and field during his time with the Cardinals.
I'm very excited and filled with anticipation for what Grant is going to contribute to the team in the fall," said Head Golf Coach Jason Martonick. "I believe he is going to be a fine addition to the returning players as they look to defend their PSUAC Conference Championship and I hope to see him excel in the classroom and out on the golf course."
Grant's passion for the game of golf is evidenced by his determination and commitment to maximize his potential. After helping his team to a Schuylkill League Championship as a freshman in high school, Culbert continued to practice and play the game, eventually lowering his 18-hole average to a 78 and captaining the Cardinals golf squad during his fourth and final season. Grant's efforts paid off in the fall when he qualified for the PIAA District XI tournament and has now reached his goal of being able to compete at the collegiate level.
"After visiting several colleges and making a second visit to Penn State Hazleton, I felt that Hazleton presented a great opportunity for me," stated Culbert. "The players and coaches are humble, very down to earth and I knew I would be very comfortable here. I'm looking forward to competing and eventually earning the number one spot on the team."
Off the links, Culbert loves fishing, hanging out with his friends and enjoying a leisurely round out on the golf course. Grant is the son of Michael and Rhonda Culbert and has one sibling, Zachary. Grant will be pursuing a degree in Business Management from Penn State and looks forward to pursuing his academic and athletic goals as a Penn State Hazleton Nittany Lion.
