Lady Lions fall behind...Fail to complete comeback at Mont Alto
Mont Alto, PA - The Lady Lions visited Penn State Mont Alto (11-10, 7-5 PSUAC) on Sunday for their final regular season Penn State University Athletic Conference match-up. The Lady Lions fell behind early and failed to complete a second half comeback, losing their first road game of the season, 73-67.
Penn State Hazleton (17-4, 11-3 PSUAC) saw three players reach double figures on Sunday. Stephanie Guevara (North Brunswick, NJ) led Hazleton with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals. Taylor Cannon (Hazleton, PA) also pitched in 17 points and Alexis Daly added 13 points and 8 rebounds.
Mont Alto took full advantage of Hazleton's poor first half shooting, opening up a lead as large as 17 in the opening period. The Lady Lions shot just 22.6 percent from the field and found themselves trailing by 15 at intermission. Hazleton mounted a second half comeback, winning the turnover battle and cutting the lead to as few as 5 points. In the end, Mont Alto's long range attack and consistent offense, were too much for Hazleton to overcome.
Dari Kozain led all scorers for Mont Alto, drilling four baskets from downtown and finishing with a game high 21 points. Ashley Madison worked her way to the free throw line for 12 of her 14 points, while Alicia Detwiler pitched in 12 points to complete the upset win for Mont Alto.
Penn State Hazleton will play the waiting game to see where they stand for the post season. The Lady Lions sit in the number four spot in the PSUAC playoff hunt behind Brandywine, Beaver, and Lehigh Valley. Hazleton's final regular season game will be made up on February 15 at Wilkes University.
