Lady Lions surrender first loss of the season at Lycoming College

Williamsport, Pa. - A slow start by the Lady Lions spelled defeat as they dropped their first game of the season on the road at Lycoming College. The NCAA Division Three Warriors pulled away in the early goings and maintained their double digit advantage throughout the ballgame. Hazleton played even basketball from the second quarter on but ultimately fell to Lycoming by a score of 75-55.

1^st Half:

After an opening free throw by senior Alexis Daly (New Albany, Pa.), the Warriors pulled away with a 15-0 run in the first five minutes of play. Lycoming's stout defense continued throughout the first quarter, limiting the Lady Lions to just one field goal in the first quarter, a last second layup made by junior Stephanie Guevara (North Brunswick, Pa.) to cut the lead to 24-5 in favor of the Warriors. Guevara poured in seven more points as the Lady Lions won the second frame, but the Warriors continued find offense from a multitude of players. Olivia Manges score nine points as nine Lady Warriors filled the scoring column by halftime, leading to a 37-20 advantage over Hazleton at the break.

2^ndHalf:

The Warriors began the third period on a 12-3 run and extended their lead to as many as 27 in the quarter to dash any hopes for a second half comeback by Hazleton. Despite the deficit, the Lady Lions continued a solid effort, cutting the lead back down to 19 points on two free throws by freshman Mckenzie Prutsman (Jasper, Ny.) at the end of the quarter. Still with gas in the tank, Prutsman went on to score 8 points in the final period, but the Lions failed to get within striking distance as the Warriors went on to win their home opener 75-55.

Team Leaders:

All 12 Lady Warriors filled the box score with five players scoring nine points or more in the contest. Olivia Manges scored 11 in the game including three scores from long distance to go along with her team high nine rebounds. Haley Sipple connected on four of seven shooting, scoring 10 points in the win.

Stephanie Guevara led the Lady Lions with 13 points and four steals on the night. Mckenzie Prutsman added 10 second half scores to finish with a dozen points, seven rebounds and three swipes. Alexis Daly was held in check on the offensive end, tallying seven points while securing 10 rebounds in the losing effort.

Next up: The Lady Lions continue their two game road stint tomorrow night when they travel to Cairn University. Tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Langhorne, Pa.
