SUNY Dehli Starters Too Much for PSU Hazleton
SUNY Delhi's starting five raked in all the Broncos' season-high 96 points Friday as they defeated Penn State Hazleton in the Bronco's home gym by a score of 96-67.
Despite having a third straight stellar game by Mckenzie Prutsman, the Lady Lions of Hazleton ran into a scoring machine in the Broncos of SUNY Delhi losing 96-67 on Friday night in Delhi's home gym. While Prutsman poured in a season high 31 points, and teammates Kendra Pfeil and Mekenzie Wolfe added 14 and 10 points respectively, the trio was no match for the starting line-up of the Broncos.
Samiaya Salley scored 33 points to lead all scorers, but Camryn McDonald dominated both sides of the court, grabbing her first career double-double with 23 points, 25 rebounds and 11 assists. The other three Bronco starters, Erica Cornmire recorded 15 points, while Sam Acuna totaled 13 points, and Katie Herba accounted for 12 points.
Delhi outshot Hazleton, 47.7 percent (42-for-88) from the floor to 32.9 percent (26-for-79), led, 66-48, in points in the paint, as well as 26-8 in fast break points. The Broncos grabbed 56 rebounds to the Lions' 46, and dished out 27 assists to Hazleton's five.
The Broncos jumped out to a 7-0 lead out of the gate and never looked back, stretching their lead to as much as 31 points before halftime. Delhi took a 51-23 lead into the halftime break. The Lady Lions played evenly with the Broncos in the second half being bested by only one point 44-43, but the damage was already done allowing Delhi to cruise to the win.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Lady Lions. They will resume play on Monday, January 8th to be played against Wilkes University in the friendly confines of Dr. Thomas M Caccese Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
