Lady Lions stall in fourth quarter, fall to DuBois 103-80

Hazleton, Pa. - In their second home game in as many days, the Lady Lions fell in the late stages of play. Saturday's contest with Penn State DuBois was a tight battle for three quarters until a 30 point spurt by the visitors in the final quarter gave the visitors a 103-80 victory over Hazleton. Dubois led by just three points with eight minutes to play in the game but 28-8 run by DuBois doused the Lady Lions hopes for their first conference win.

An 11 point quarter by senior Mckenzie Prutsman had the Lady Lions out in front early and despite the loss, Prutsman continued her steady play throughout, topping all scorers in the game with 29 points. The senior added team highs with eight rebounds and seven assists respectively. Other Lady Lions in double-figures included sophomores Kendra Pfeil (Hazleton, Pa.) and Laruen Pataki (Hazleton, Pa.). Pfeil came on strong in the second half, scoring 19 of her 24 points in the final 20 minutes going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Pataki added 19 points and five steals, firing at a 40 percent clip for the game. 

Hazleton was able to counter DuBois' distinct advantage on the glass by forcing 22 turnovers on the day and converting at nearly 40 percent from the field for the first three quarters. The game was up for grabs into the fourth period but a pair of disqualifications in the second half were key in DuBois fourth quarter success against the Lady Lions. A pair of threes by DuBois' Kristen Williams kick-started the final push by the visitors who held the Lady Lions to just four points over the first 4:30 seconds of the fourth quarter. Kendra Pfeil would add eight of her 24 points in the final quarter but it was too little too late as DuBois surged passed the Lions with a 10-for-23 shooting performance from the field and nine points from the stripe in the final quarter.

Next up: The Lady Lions continue their stretch of home games leading into the semester break with rescheduled game against Davis College. The Falcons will visit the Dr. Thomas M. Cacesse Gymnasium on Wednesday, December 5 for a 7:00 p.m. tip off.
