Lions fall to Trinity 8-3 in nations Capitol
Washington D.C. - The Lady Lions took an early lead in Monday's road contest at Trinity Washington University but failed to hang on to 3-1 first half advantage as the home squad finished the game on a 7-0 run to capture the win over Hazleton by the final score of 8-3. Monday's affair looked lopsided on the scoreboard, but Hazleton worked their way to plenty of quality scoring chances, out-shooting Trinity 18-15 in shots on goal. Junior Ariel Rowlands (Dorrance, Pa.) contributed a pair of scores to help build the Hazleton lead in the first 20 minutes of action, but Trinity would dominate the scoring in the final 70 minutes of play. Trinity found paydirt on long passes over the Lady Lion defenders, allowing the swift Angely Mercado to run down the ball for uncontested shot attempts. In one fashion or another, Mercado would account for seven of Trinity's eight scores on the afternoon, dashing any hopes of a second half comeback for the Lady Lions.
Moments that Mattered
Fetterman creates havoc
Sophomore Breann Fetterman (Mountain Top, Pa.) continued to be a playmaker for Hazleton, getting Hazleton on the board with a laser off the Tirinity keeper, allowing Rowlands to collect the rebound and finish the job. The sophomore would go on to create Hazleton's next two scores, connecting again with Rowlands for a header sent in on a crossing pass, then putting the finishing touches on a three assist effort finding junior Katie Oldziejewski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) on a through ball to left side of the field.
Lions can't contain Mercado
Trinity's Angely Mercado proved too much for the Lady Lions to handle, striking for five of the home squad's first six scores on the afternoon. Mercardo made a habit of successfully converting long runs into one on one scenarios with the Hazleton keeper, earning eight shots on target in the game. Late in the action, Hazleton was able to contain Mercado's shot but the speedy forward knew when to dump the ball off to teammates, assisting on Trinity's final two scores to complete her banner day.

Several cancelations result in just over a week off for the Lady Lions. Hazleton will next see action when they travel to Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday, October 4 where they will look to rebound after a 7-2 loss to the reigning Penn State University Athletic Conference champions last week.
