Hazleton, Pa. - After a seven day hiatus, the Lady Lions were back on the pitch, wrapping up the regular season with a non-conference match against Alfred State College. Hazleton would keep withing striking distance for nearly the entire game, but Alfred State would go on top early and maintain their lead for a wire to wire 4-0 win.
Alfred State would take command early as Hazleton struggled to contain Maggie Meyers. Meyers struck for a pair of goals in the eighth and 16th minutes, first on a pass from the baseline by Abby King and a second unassisted score on a low bullet from the left side of the 18. Hazleton would move the ball well and work their way to a number of good opportunities but came up empty in the efforts to cut into the lead. Despite the early deficit, Hazleton would right the ship and play 0-0 ball for the next 69 minutes and change, but a pair of late scores in the final 10 minutes of play expanded the margin of victory to 4-0 in favor of Alfred State.
Next up: Despite the loss, Hazleton performed well against a quality opponent and will use that effort as a tune up for the playoffs. With the number two seed locked up, Hazleton will play host to Penn State Beaver on Saturday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. looking to advance to the conference finals.
