PSU Hazleton Falls 3-0 to PSU Scranton in Conference Tilt
HAZLETON, PA -- Penn State Hazleton dropped a 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 7-25)decision to visiting Penn State Wilkes-Barre in a Penn State University Athletic Conference match Thursday night in the Dr. Thomas Caccese Gymnasium. The Nittany Lions (1-5, 1-4 PSUAC) were unable to follow-up on their first win of the season over Penn State DuBois earlier in the week.
Penn State Wilkes-Barre (1-1, 1-1 PSUAC) jumped out to early leads in each set, including a 7-1 run to begin the second. Hazleton couldn't overcome the early deficits, falling victim to their own errors. The Nittany Lions commited 44 receive errors on the night, compared to only three for Wilkes-Barre.
Tina Beiland (Philadelphia, PA) notched two kills and two service aces for Hazleton, who struggled to muster any offense. Kahli Kotulski finished with a match-high nine kills for Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre's Jordan Chiavarri added a match-high 16 assists. Both team's offenses struggled to gain momentum, as both teams hit under .105.
Hazleton returns to the court on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Penn State Lehigh Valley (3-0, 3-0 PSUAC) for another PSUAC contest before a non-conference game against Central Penn on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Hazleton.
