HAZLETON, Pa. -- Penn State Hazleton dropped two matches as part of a Penn State University Athletic Conference quad match on Sunday in the Dr. Thomas Caccese Gymnasium. Penn State Beaver swept the Nittany Lions, before Hazleton dropped a match in straight sets to Penn State Greater Allegheny, 3-0 (0-25, 0-25, 0-25).
Hazleton (1-11, 1-8 PSUAC) started slow in each of their six sets and could not muster a comeback as they tried to remain in playoff contention in the conference. One more loss would eliminate the Nittany Lions from consideration.
Penn State Beaver - 3, Penn State Hazleton - 0
Beaver grabbed an early advantage and never looked back as they sent Hazleton reeling with their seventh straight loss. The Lions won 3-0 (4-25, 15-25, 12-25), and held Hazleton to their lowest point total of the season, giving up only four points in the first set.
Aneesha Reese (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Hazleton with three kills on nine attacks, and also paced the Nittany Lions with three digs and an assist. Beaver was led by Natalie Gamble with match-highs of 10 kills and three blocks. Brittany Davids added five kills to go along with 21 assists and eight aces.
Beaver improves to 10-7 overall, and 7-3 in the PSUAC. Hazleton takes on Penn State Greater Allegheny in the second match of the day for each team.

Hazleton dropped their second match of their doubleheader on Sunday, as Greater Allegheny took home a 3-0 win (8-25, 14-25, 18-25). Greater Allegheny improves 15-7 overall, 8-4 in the PSUAC.
Tina Beiland (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a team-high three aces for the Nittany Lions, while Aneesha Reese added three kills and seven digs.
Hazleton returns to action on Tuesday, September 30 as they travel to Penn State Wilkes-Barre for a PSUAC showdown. Wilkes-Barre won the teams previous meeting 3-0 on September 18.
