Lady Lions fall to Schuylkill 3-0
Shuylkill Haven, Pa. - The Lady Lions hit a road block on Saturday afternoon, dropping the match in straight sets at Penn State Schuylkill. Hazleton battled early on but after a 25-17 loss in set one, the Lady Lions slipped in the next two frames, totaling just 16 points in the final two sets and falling to a record of 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference.
Hazleton struggled on serve receive throughout the match, surrenduring 15 aces to the home team and had even more difficulty finding an answer for Schuylkill's Noel Kaufman. Kaufman tallied a game high 18 kills against the Lady Lions, accounting for nearly 60 percent of Schuylkill's successful attacks. Freshman RosadLydia Caputo (Howard Beach, Ny.) registered five kills in the match, adding three aces and six digs to her credit but Hazleton was unable to make up the difference against the hard hitting Schuylkill squad who moved to 4-0 in the PSUAC, sitting in first place in the eastern division.
Next up: Hazleton looks to bounce back on Sunday when the Lady Lions return home to host Penn State Scranton on Sunday, September 22 for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
